    The clutch isn't there to keep the chain noise down but rather to release the chain, when you change it (Probably helps when removing the back wheel too?)

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB 4 дні тому

      Mostly any bike can be fitted with an externally routed dropper post, however if you want the cabling to be all internal, any gen 3 marlin bike can make that work. It's harder to do on the gen 2 marlins since they are missing a hole in the frame on the seattube near the bottom bracket, but I've seen some people find creative ways around it.

    I have the 2024 Axum comp X. And absolutely love it! It has a very solid frame! A reliable and quality built bike! I plan on changing a lot of components, but will have a better bike in the than most bike shop bikes, because I can say built not bought! It doesn’t matter what you put into it. It’s what you get out of it specially in the bicycle world think about it.

    • @TalalipopMTB

      That's just a hole in the frame that has a spot to add a zip tie to prevent the internally routed cables of the bike from rattling around and making noise. It should be ziptied from the factory so you shouldn't have to worry about it

    I'm not a down hiller, I bought a rock hopper simply because it was down in price from £799, to £640, and I just had a gifthorse which generated £370 toward the cost. So... I actually only paid£270. What a bargain. Ok, so my one, has black matt text on a dark battleship blue satin. It's very subtle, and doesn't attract attention. What a great ride. Ive had mine a year, and I really looked after it, it's immaculate. It rides really well, at slow, (walking speed), its solid, and I have the large size, but im only 5' 7" . I did cut about an inch off each side of the handlebars, for me, they were too wide, and I still think a few more millimetres could go. The saddle was fine, but I changed it for an, ' Ego ', and slouching forward, in the neanderthal position, just annoys me, so, from, ' Halfords ', I bought an adjustable riser set at max for a more upright position. I would recomend it, but only from a town, road, and gravel track experience. It is a big, long, wide bike, but cool.👍😊

    loved the bike, not the drivetrain. absolutely horrendous. Every time I rode on the trails, chain would drop or rear cassette would rub/click. Wish the frame came with the Marlin 6 1-by drivetrain

    I just got this bike 2 months ago after not having a mountain bike for about 20 years. The local bike shop had one in store in XL, my size. I was looking at a Giant in the 1000 euro price range but it was only there in M size, so I spent a bit more (1350 euros plus 40 for good pedals) and got this one. The bike shop didn't make it clear to me that it was setup as tubeless. I thought it was optional and they would deliver it with tubes. So I rode around for 180 km with an inner tube patch kit. After about 1.5 months I topped up the air in the tires and noticed white fluid coming out the valve. So I contacted the bike shop and indeed it was setup with tubeless. I might have had a puncture without even noticing. Guess I'm going with the times and stick with tubeless. I plan on letting the bike shop do most of the maintenance. Support your local bike shop and all. I wouldn't know how tubeless feels compared to tubes, because the bike is so much different than the bikes 20 years ago. In all 10 years I rode in the past with tubes I never had a flat on a mountain bike. Not even when I broke the rear rim once. I must have been lucky and/or the trail and road conditions are just better where I ride. Oh boy, did mountain bikes become much better than 20 years ago. Back then for the same amount of money I had a bike that felt like it was only half the quality. The Xcaliber is a very fast bike. Excellent for the trails in our relatively flat Netherlands. And it climbs like a goat. It can climb hills that I've never been able to do in the past. Thanks for the review. So, it was 1350 euros retail price. But some online stores offer it at the moment with a discount at 999 euros. If you do your bike service yourself that might have been a cheaper option. But like I said, I like to build a good relationship with my local dealer. They had a hard time with Corona and such. And I don't mind paying full price.

    Whats the difference between a procaliber and marlin?

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB 13 днів тому

      Procaliber is more cross country race oriented with frame geometry that puts you in a more forward position to get better pedaling efficiency, but that can make it less comfortable for everyday riding. Usually procalibers are also carbon fiber while marlins are aluminum but that’s changing for this year since we have the aluminum procaliber models that I’ll cover soon. Procalibers have higher end components, are lighter in weight, and have better frame features for mountain biking like a stronger tapered headtube for stronger suspension forks, wider boost spacing for stronger wheels, stuff like that

    Thanks for the info, and for the great presentation…you’re really good at this! Is it worth it to upgrade from the Sport’s XCM to a fork with lockout if I’m mostly going to be riding on the road? I’ve been using an older 2010 Hard Rock with a fork that doesn’t lock out and I’ve just been tightening it to the max…seems to work fine, but I’m aware that I’m very slow by most road biker’s standards, haha. Just wondering if it’s worth the money, time and effort. Thanks again and have a good one!

    • @TalalipopMTB
      @TalalipopMTB 13 днів тому

      Thank you! And I’d say anything is better if you’re coming from the 2010 bike, so you could probably do fine with the XCM and tighten the preload like you said. Having a lockout is pretty nice since it really makes that fork solid for the SR Suntour spring loaded forks so you’re more efficient, which helps on newer mountain bikes since we now have the wider handlebars and wider tires that make it slower. Getting an air fork with a lockout would be the best since you would lose a good amount of weight which helps for riding on the road. I’d say to just ride the bike out and if you start to feel slow then that could be a good upgrade. If you are mainly riding on the road though you could swap out the tires to thinner gravel style tires and that would also make you faster, but I understand if that’s not your ideal option

      @TalalipopMTB thanks for the response. I've gotten over 300km on the marlin 7 so far, about 3 weeks in. Still really enjoying it, though I'm still looking at what else I could have gotten lol. The xcaliber is probably more geared towards my type of riding, but the 7 was already a pretty big financial splurge for me, so spending even more was kind of out of the question...
